104.7 The Point and Harpoon Brewery welcome
Generally a protest-minded Rastafarian outfit, Steel Pulse started out playing authentic roots reggae with touches of jazz and Latin music in 1975 in ghetto area of Birmingham, England. Considered one of Britain's greatest reggae bands, their 1978 debut, Handsworth Revolution, is still regarded by many critics as a landmark and a high point of British reggae. With a career spanning over 30 years, what other reggae group can say they've opened for The Police and The Clash and XTC, won several Grammys, and performed at Bill Clinton's inaugural celebration? Vermont's own Pulse Prophets open the show.
With influences such as Michael Franti and Spearhead, Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, and the Talking Heads you know the music has a message as well as a solid groove. Combining crucial elements of roots reggae, funk, dub, latin, ska, and rock the Pulse Prophets pack the dance floor with positive vibes!
