WILCO (at Tanglewood): http://www.wilcoworld.net; Wilco is an American rock band based in Chicago, Illinois. The band was formed by musician and songwriter Jeff Tweedy in 1994 after the breakup of alternative country group Uncle Tupelo. While originally playing a musical style similar to Uncle Tupelo's previous recordings, Wilco is now mostly known for its rock, alternative rock and, sometimes, experimental style. The band current line-up also features bassist John Stirratt, guitarist Nels Cline, drummer Glenn Kotche, multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone and pianist Mikael Jorgensen. The band has released six studio albums, a live album, and two tribute albums to American folk musician Woody Guthrie in collaboration with English musician Billy Bragg. Their fifth studio album A Ghost Is Born won two Grammy Awards for the best alternative album and for best recording package in 2005.

Andrew Bird: http://www.andrewbird.net; Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist and lyricist Andrew Bird picked up his first violin at the age of 4. Actually, it was a Cracker Jack box with a ruler taped to it, and the first of his many Suzuki music lessons involved simply bowing to the teacher and going home. He spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear so when it came time for a restless teen-ager to make the jump to Hungarian Gypsy music, early jazz, country blues, south Indian etc., it wasn't such a giant leap. It's fitting that now, though classically trained, he has instead opted to play his violin in a most unconventional manner, accompanying himself on glockenspiel and guitar, adding singing and whistling to the equation, and becoming a pop songwriter in the process.
