In an ever-growing genre of technical metal, the issues of the genre have become glaringly evident. More and more bands flood the scene with blazing chops, dizzying odd-times, and incomprehensible avant-garde vocals. What's missing? Songs. The folly of the virtuoso is always his inability to create something that both the musician and the average listener can comprehend. While hardly claiming to be virtuosos, LAST CHANCE TO REASON tackles this issue nonetheless. Maine's LAST CHANCE TO REASON is one of few technically adept bands that take the time to choose a single note rather than figuring out how many they can cram into a measure. Using their technical ability as a tool to craft a truly different sound rather than just flaunting their ability with unbridled wankery, LAST CHANCE TO REASON can focus on the art of the riff, engaging experimental sounds, and irresistible vocal hooks. Despite influences ranging from Meshuggah to Def Leppard to the classical atonal composers of the 1900's, LAST CHANCE TO REASON has strived not to become a bouncing hodge-podge of genres, but create a unified and original sound.
In 2007 LCTR released their their first full-length album on Tribunal Records with the help of acclaimed metal producer Jamie King at his Basement Studios in North Carolina. King has produced bands as well-known as Between the Buried and Me, KillWhitneyDead, Through the Eyes of the Dead, and Prayer for Cleansing, among dozens of others.
“The new album makes everything we’ve ever recorded sound like white noise,” says drummer Evan Sammons.
Last Chance to Reason’s long-awaited, professionally produced full-length debut has raised the bar, set the standards, and has given a concrete redefinition of the group for new and old fans alike.
Prepare to bear witness to Last Chance to Reason’s assault on the world as they continue to invade venues, stereos, and iPods near you.
Dour Cursiva is a metal band with hardcore roots from Providence, Rhode Island that takes aim at blending many influences, moods, and styles while attempting to maintain a wavelength compositional approach embracing a mixed bag of melodies, dissonances, polyrhythms, and drones. Deriving their name from the English word dour, meaning severe or harsh, and the Latin word cursiva, meaning written script, the band explores some of the more traumatic elements of the human experience in their writing. The band consists of a core of musicians who have been playing both together and separately in a wide range of bands for the past eight years and strive to blend all influences, ideas, and talents into one coherent, in-depth musical experience.
