The Oxford Dictionary defines the word “twiddle” as:
• Noun: A rapid or intricate series of musical notes.
• Verb: To play or fiddle with something

This sounds about right for rising and rockin' Vermont foursome, Twiddle. The band’s intricate, complex compositions cut notes with precision, but their high-energy, rapid-fire playing keep their fans doing way more than just fiddling about — rather their collective sweaty soles are kept moving, keeping pace with every blast, every roar, every ascension into sweet jam heaven.

One might think Eagle Rock, the mountain the Twiddle house backs onto, was named for them. Because rock they do, quite frequently — as frequently as one might suspect from a band whose living room is their rehearsal space. Living together up in the hills of Hubbardton, Vermont, sharing life like brothers is instrumental in their abilities to read each other on stage and carry improvised jams to far-strung melodious dimensions. Twiddle have a knack for banging out progressive and severely danceable tunes that rarely are carbon copies of each other. Their jams effortlessly flow, teasing and tantalizing the audience with tight, majestic hooks and tasty pockets of funk.

The band — made up of singer/guitarist Mihali “Mickey” Savoulidis, keyboardist Ryan Dempsey, drummer Brook Jordan, and bassist Zdenek Gubb — rock out with a sound that tickles the funk, rock, reggae vein, interspersing wailing guitar solos, punchy drum hits, slap-happy bass blasts and pounding piano grooves with elements of Latin, jazz and classical sensibilities.

The foursome, who have been writing and playing together for three years, have all been playing their instruments for half their lives. Feeding off their fans’ frenzied bootie-shaking and cries for more, the depths of musical exploration and discovery they hit show no bounds. Mihali is the band’s chief songwriter, having conceived many of the band’s poignant, catchy and funky lyrics during his early high school years. Most of the melodies are brought to life through the creative minds of Mihali and Ryan, who was classically trained in jazz piano through much of his childhood. Collectively, the foursome count jam-rock heavyweights Phish, progressive improve masters Umphrey’s McGee, frenzied fiddler Bela Fleck and quirk-rock pioneer Frank Zappa as influential to their music careers.

Twiddle are as much at home outside singing to the sun or rocking under the stars as they are onstage inside a sweaty, pulsating venue. Regular radio play from all corners of Vermont to North Carolina and weekly gigs throughout New England and New York allows them to continually expand their musical palettes. And with repeat engagements at every venue they hit, Twiddle continually demonstrate a boundless energy, never shying away from taking on a third or fourth set, sending their devoted dance party twisting and turning late into the night. An explosive live show that ebbs and flows and rocks and climaxes and grooves keeps their fans hungry yet fulfilled, and twiddling their thumbs until their next show.

In their fifth year as a band, Greyspoke is gaining notariety in the music community of Vermont and a variety of Northeastern music scenes, with a blend of hard rock, jam, funk, and jazz. These former high school classmates have taken the stage at venues, parties, and festivals, from New England to Ohio, including upstate New York and NYC, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and up and down Vermont, where all four of the band’s members grew up and started to write and jam together. This summer they will record their first EP before heading out to Gratefulfest where they will play the main stage. In September the band will head for the studio to record their first full-length LP, while they hold down a Wednesday residency at local livespot, Nectar’s, and capture the dynamic shows for Greyspoke’s first live album.
