Kat Wright, Bob Wagner (guitar) and Josh Weinstein (bass) lean into their trio formation, showcasing their folky / rootsy selves, all stripped down, a triangulation of their strengths, their bareness, their imperfect humanness, their voices ,their ferocious tenderness, their love of songs and singing and story.
Aneken River is a gender fluid vocal artist, songwriter, and performer born and residing in Burlington, Vermont. Their love of singing first developed doing harmonies in the alto section of the Edmund’s choir. Music continued to be an influential form of expression as they began writing their own songs during and after high school. Performing opportunities presented themselves in the streets of Europe in the form of Americana style music and then later in the form of jazz, while attending university in Quebec. Aneken began performing original music throughout numerous bars in Sherbrooke and Montreal, before returning to Burlington and absorbing into the local scene. Songs were written on ukulele and acoustic guitar and have been adapted for the electric with arrangements by guitarist Tyler George-Minetti. Also joining the stage with Aneken and Tyler is percussionist Anthony Kareckas, who Aneken performs with in another project, Eleven Eleven. The trio has taken an alternative approach to the original acoustic-folk-singersongwriter style songs, coining the term future folk. If this genre baffles you, be sure to have a listen for yourself. These “original covers” have been built specifically for the live stage.
