On July 24 the Vermont Symphony Orchestra returns to its well-loved July open-air concerts with “Summer Under the Stars” at Shelburne Museum, featuring singer-songwriter Francesca Blanchard and conducted by VSO's Creative Projects Chair Matt LaRocca. In partnership with Higher Ground, the concert features a dynamic 25-piece chamber orchestra playing music inspired by nature and the great outdoors with French-born, Burlington-based songstress Blanchard. Reunite with the VSO and this family-friendly evening featuring music from Bizet’s opera Carmen, Aaron Copland’s feisty Rodeo, Argentinian tango composer Astor Piazzolla, the legendary composer William Grant Still, impressionist composer Claude Debussy, and the VSO orchestra backing Blanchard on arrangements of her own repertoire.
While smoking and animals (except assistance and service animals) are not allowed at any VSO show, we encourage you to bring a picnic blanket, folding chairs, and whatever you need to comfortably enjoy the outdoors, such as insect repellent and water. Sun umbrellas are welcome until the start of the concert. Flashlights are also suggested to help you find your way to your car after the sun has set.
