Dalton & the Sheriffs — newly minted as the 2022 Country Artist of the Year by the Boston Music Awards — always needs some explanation.

DIY to a fault, the band is has found mainstream success despite doing most everything ass-backwards. After selling out the Brighton Music Hall, the Paradise Rock Club, and the House of Blues multiple times, the band graduated to headlining 5,000 capacity venues in Boston, with independently booked and promoted shows at the Leader Bank Pavilion (2021) and an opening week slot at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway (2022). But, you’re just as likely to see them at the Bell in Hand, playing for a couple dozen of their friends. Both are equally important to the band’s success.

Twelve years in, the genre is a little murky to industry types. But, in reality, they sound exactly like a Boston-based country band should: earnest lyrics and country melodies with a rock soul and just enough Irish pub sing-a-long to throw a party.

The band is currently writing the follow up to 2022’s We’re Still Here (which won Album of the Year at the New England Music Awards) and is heading out on the road to keep building they Dalton community one song at a time.
