COVID-19 Safety Update: (Current Policy)

Due to Vermont’s high vaccination rate and significantly declining local hospitalization rates we will no longer be requiring proof of vaccination or a negative PCR result for events at Higher Ground, unless requested by the artist. This change will take effect on April 1st, 2022 and will apply to performances at both the Ballroom and the Showcase Lounge.

Please continue to watch for communications on any protocol changes for upcoming performances.

Previous COVID Policy (effective until April 1, 2022)

The safety of our patrons, staff, and artists is our top priority. All patrons attending events at the Higher Ground Ballroom and Showcase Lounge will be required to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (with or without a booster) OR a negative PCR test from the past 72 hours, along with a matching photo ID. Proof of vaccination can be your physical vaccine card or a photo of your card. Tests must be administered by an authorized provider with your name included on the test result.

Vermont PCR testing is free, locations can be found here.

We have also installed an indoor air purification system that effectively treats airborne viruses, bacteria, and allergens.

I bought tickets for friends/family. How can they pick them up?

Mobile tickets can be scanned directly at the door. Proof of purchase must be shown in order to pick up tickets from the Box Office. Proof of purchase may include a valid id of the original purchaser, the credit card that was used to purchase the tickets, or an order confirmation email. The Box Office can be notified in advance to note that tickets will be picked up by someone other than the purchaser.

Are tickets refundable? What if a show is rescheduled or cancelled?

Tickets are not refundable, all sales are final. If a show is rescheduled the new date will be immediately posted to this website and your ticket for the original show will be honored at the rescheduled date. If a show is cancelled and no make up date is announced then the ticket is refundable (less service charges unfortunately — our ticketing company’s policy, not ours); the refund will happen automatically if you purchased with a credit card, otherwise if you paid cash you need to bring your ticket back to the place of purchase (Higher Ground Box Office) for a refund. Cash refunds are available for 30 days.

Does Higher Ground have seating?

Higher Ground is standing room only unless otherwise noted. There is limited seating along the perimeter of the club that’s first-come, first-serve. This seating is not meant to watch the show from but as temporary respite for those who want to get off their feet for a minute. Please be considerate to offer the seating to those in need.
Higher Ground does do some fully seated shows, these situations are noted in the show information. If a show is seated, the seating is always general admission, first-come, first-served.

Where can I park? Can I leave my car overnight?

First and foremost: Parking is limited so PLEASE CARPOOL. Please park in the spaces in front of Higher Ground and in the large lot on the east side of the building. Please be respectful of our neighbors and do not leave trash behind. DO NOT PARK IN THE ZACHARY’S PIZZA PARKING LOT as you will likely be towed, regardless of time or situation.

If you have too much to drink and need to leave your car behind (thanks for being responsible!!) please let a staff member know so we can make sure it doesn’t get towed in the morning.

Can I go out to my car once I come in?

Sorry, no. Higher Ground has a strict No Re-Entry policy.

Do you allow smoking or vaping?

No, Higher Ground is a completely smoke-free and vape-free establishment per Vermont’s Clean Indoor Air Act. We often have a smoking area outside but capacity is limited and it is not guaranteed. Please ask a staff member if the smoking patio is open and they’ll direct you. If you are caught smoking or vaping inside the venue you will be asked to leave and your ticket will not be refunded.

Does Higher Ground serve alcohol?

Yes, Higher Ground has three full-service bars. Two in the Ballroom and one in the Showcase Lounge. We offer a wide selection of domestic and craft beer, cider, spirits, wine, and more. I left my credit card at the bar! How do I get it back?

We keep credit cards for 30 days in our Box Office, after which they are destroyed and disposed. You must have valid photo ID to retrieve your card. Any tabs left open are closed out by our bar staff at the end of the night with a 20% gratuity added.

Do you have a Coat Check?

Yes, during the colder months only though (Oct 1 – May 15 respectively). It’s $2.00/item.

Can you recommend a hotel nearby?

There are several great hotels within walking distance of Higher Ground, however, we always recommend the Best Western & Windjammer Inn first and foremost, they offer a special Higher Ground rate for our guests – which you can automatically apply to your booking by following this link: Reserve a room here

Best Western & Windjammer Inn, 1076 Williston Road – (802)-863-1125

Does Higher Ground serve food?

We have a kitchen on site that’s primary focus is feeding our lovely touring acts! We serve a limited menu during the beginning of each show, but kitchen hours are limited and vary based on demand. We strongly recommend eating before you come to a show. Food is prepared by on-site catering company, Encore Catering. They are available for catering both on and off the premises. Email Encore at winters.shawn@gmail.com for more information.

What are the age requirements for a show?

All shows at Higher Ground are typically all ages unless otherwise noted. However, we do not allow infants at our concerts, unless it is a designated children’s show. All children still need to have a ticket to attend, due to local fire code.

Can I take photos? Record audio or video?

Higher Ground maintains a no flash rule on photography, beyond that, the specific photo/audio/video request of each artist is honored. Most artists prohibit pro-photo rigs (SLR cameras, etc.), as well as, any video and/or audio recording.

Can I rent Higher Ground for a private party, birthday party, CD Release Party or other event?

Yes. Higher Ground is available to rent for almost any use, for almost any occasion. We’ve done full-service, seated banquets to small birthday parties. Rental rates vary depending on day of week and time of year, as well as a few other factors. Please contact info@highergroundmusic.com for more information. Please put the words ROOM RENTAL in the subject line.

How do I get my band on a bill at Higher Ground?

Higher Ground primarily books national bands or local bands that have a strong following. If you want to get started in Burlington, we suggest Nectar’s and Club Metronome as two great venues for developing bands.

Opening slots are limited (most nationals bring their own support) or reserved for bands that we feel are working hard in Burlington and have developed a following.
